My Story

Hello, my name is Lyra! A little bit about me...

I was born and raised in Northern California as an only child, and as a result, I am very close to my cousins and grandmother. Memories with them inspire much of my work, as well as my Japanese and Greek heritage. I grew up playing multiple musical instruments, and eventually earned a music degree specialising in piano, violin, voice, and music production. I attended a university in Washington, D.C., and soon after graduating, I moved back to California. Much to my surprise, only a few months after my return my dad received a wonderful job offer in Washington, D.C., just minutes from my alma mater! So, we all packed our bags and here we are, happy as can be!

I began painting during my second year at university in 2017, when I had a spontaneous impulse to venture downtown and buy watercolour materials (who knew impulsive shopping could lead to discovering a new passion?). In December of 2019 I began to paint with oils, which seemed like such a crazy medium after working with watercolours. Now I have come to love both, and I hope you do, too!

In addition to painting, I have other hobbies that include archery, hiking, playing piano and violin, producing music, creative writing, journaling, and my dad and I spend our weekends unicycling around town. If you're ever in D.C. and see a unicyclist, give a holler, it just might be me!
